2.1 Bereken die derde sy van die volgende driehoeke:

2.1.1 Δ DEF met  D ’n regte hoek en e = 5 mm en f = 12 mm

2.1.2 Δ XYZ met  Y ’n regte hoek en x = 3 cm en y = 5 cm.

3. Probleem : Wat is die lengte van die kortste sy ( b ) van die reghoekige driehoek ABC as die ander twee sye 6 cm en 9 cm is?  C is die regte hoek.

Oplossing : In ’n reghoekige driehoek is die langste sy altyd die skuissy, naamlik die sy oorkant die regte hoek. Ons moet dus die Stelling van Pythagoras in sy ander vorm gebruik.

  • As b die kortste sy is, en  C ’n regte hoek, dan is c die langste sy. Gebruik dus:

b 2 = c 2 a 2 (let op waar b 2 is, en dat ons aftrek)

b 2 = (9) 2 – (6) 2 = 81 – 36 = 45 cm 2 Sakrekenaar tyd!

b 2 = 45. Gebruik die size 12{ sqrt {} } {} – knoppie op die sakrekenaar om b se waarde te kry.

  • Jou sakrekenaar gee die antwoord: b = 6,7082039 . . . ensovoorts. Maar maak dit sin om dit as ’n antwoord te gee? Bespreek gerus of die benaderde (afgeronde) antwoord, naamlik 6,7cm, aan ons vereistes voldoen.

3.1.1 Bereken die skuissy van ’n driehoek met die lengtes van die ander twee sye albei gelyk aan 9 cm. (Benoem die driehoek self.)

3.1.2 Δ PQR is reghoeking en gelykbenig. Bereken die lengte van PR , as die skuinssy 13,5 cm is.

4. Probleem : Is Δ GHK reghoekig as GK = 24 cm, GH = 26 cm en HK = 10 cm is?

Oplossing : In hierdie probleem weet ons wat al drie die sylengtes is. As ons wil weet of dit ’n reghoekige driehoek is, moet ons bevestig dat (skuinssy) 2 = (een sy) 2 + (ander sy) 2 .

Die skuinssy is altyd die langste. Ons gebruik ’n spesifieke metode as ons ’n antwoord moet bevestig . Ons werk die linkerkant van die vergelyking en die regterkant apart uit. So:

  • Linkerkant = (skuinssy) 2 = 26 2 = 676 cm 2
  • Regterkant = (een sy) 2 + (ander sy) 2 = 24 2 + 10 2 = 576 + 100 = 676 cm 2
  • Omdat die linkerkant en die regterkant gelyk is, is die driehoek wel reghoekig.
  • Is dit moontlik om te besluit watter hoek die regte hoek moet wees? Antwoord self!

4.1 Is die driehoeke met die volgende sylengtes reghoekig? Watter hoek is die regte hoek?

4.1.1 a = 30 mm, b = 40 mm en c = 50 mm.

4.1.2 p = 8 cm, q = 13 cm en r = 15 cm.

4.1.3 MN = 15,56 cm, en NP = MP = 11 cm.
