  • Với diện tích mặt nước ao, mương vườn, tăng cường chỉ đạo phong trào nuôi cá nước ngọt (theo mô hình VAC). Năm 2002 có khoảng trên 200 ha diện tích nuôi cá nước ngọt và tôm càng xanh. Đối với các vùng ngoài đê bao tả-hữu thuộc cac xã khu vực đầu cồn sẽ bố trí nuôi cá nước ngọt thâm canh như các tra, cá Basa, tôm càng xanh và phấn đấu đưa lên trên 300 ha của diện tích này đến năm 2010. Sự phân chia diện tích cho các xã trong vùng nuôi trồng thủy sản ngọt thâm canh và kết hợp như sau: thị trấn Cù Lao Dung: 70 ha; An Thạnh I: 180 ha; An Thạnh II: 30 ha; An Thạnh Tây: 160 ha; An Thạnh Đông: 60 ha.
  • Tổng sản lượng thu hoạch nuôi trồng thủy sản từ: 5.000 tấn đến 10.000 tấn trong những năm 2010.
  • Có chính sách đầu tư khuyến khích hộ dân có điều kiện nâng dần số lượng tàu thuyền đánh bắt khai thác biển theo hướng khai thác xa bờ. Đến năm 2005 vùng cù lao có 135 tàu thuyền đánh cá (trong đó có 10-15 chiếc có công suất>90cv/chiếc). Năm 2010 có 150 chiếc (trong đó có 30 tàu đánh cá>90cv/chiếc). Đưa sản lượng khai thác biển năm 2005 đạt 3.000 tấn và năm 2010 đạt 3.750 tấn.
  • Xây dựng mạng lưới sản xuất giống thủy sản các loại trên cơ sở xác định nhu cầu giống thủy sản dự kiến phải có ít nhất 5-10 trại cung cấp giống thủy sản ở các xã An Thạnh Đông, An Thạnh II, An Thạnh III, Đại Ân I, và An Thạnh Nam cho giai đoạn 2003 - 2010.

Điều kiện và giải pháp cho phương án ii

Phân bố

Theo kết quả quy hoạch của phương án II là sẽ giảm mô hình truyền thống canh tác mía nên diện tích được phân bổ cho mía đến năm 2010 là 3.000ha, trong khi đó thì diện tích trồng cây ăn trái phát triển đến khoảng 2.500 ha, thủy sản phát triển 5.500 ha cho nuôi tôm sú và các nước ngọt giống như phương án I.
